Insecurity: Offa LG, NYSC Sensitise Corp Members On Safety Tips

TIC Chairman, Hon. Jare Commends Security Personnel

Offa Local Government, in collaboration with the National Youths Service Corps, have organized a sensitization programme for the Corps Members serving in the Offa Local Government on safety tips and consciousness.

The sensitization programme held on 8th of February 2024 at the Local Government Secretariat featured security personnel from different agencies in Offa.

In his opening remark, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman for Offa Local Government, Hon. (Dr) Jare Olatundun said the security situation of the country required all hands on deck to curtail the rife of security threat in the country. While addressing corp members, he noted that Offa is peaceful and accommodating to all. He urged the corps members to be security conscious, and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate quarters.

He therefore commended the Security agents in attendance for protecting lives and properties and maintaining adequate security in the community as a whole.

While speaking on safety tips, the representative of the DSS, Offa division admonished the corp members to be cautious of their movement and always inform colleagues of their whereabouts. He equally urged the corpers to always relate with people in the community and respect their culture.

According to him, “Find out the culture of a particular community, don’t put yourself in an unnecessary problem. One of the purposes of NYSC is national integration, know the people in the community you are serving and relate with them with diplomacy.”

Similarly, the representative of NDLEA Offa division urged the corp members to desist from hard drugs and harmful substances capable of truncating their lives.

In his words, “congratulations to you all for passing through some stages in life to reach here. Beware of social outing that consists of bad company. Drugs have social and psychological implications. When you see something strange, say it and don’t reside near where they sell drugs because kidnappers, armed robbers. rapists patronize drug joints. He said.

Earlier, the NYSC Local government inspector, Mr. Kakangida admonishes all Corpers to be mindful of the way they dress, the style of haircut for the males as several cases of irregularities have been brought to his table.

While making reference to the level of insecurity in Nigeria, he said anybody with crooked behavior can be apprehended, and it would be a slap to the body of NYSC, if Corp Members are found amidst such news, whether as a victim or culprit.
