ICT Director Lauds Rector, Says Initiative Will Pave Way For Reliable Internet Accessibility

The Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru led management has initiated the expansion of fibre optic technology on the two campuses to enhance seamless internet accessibility in the Polytechnic community.

The first phase of this initiative was launched on February 7, 2024 and larger percentage of students have gained access since the installation of the broadband.

Reacting to this development, the Director of ICT, Mr. Solomon Ajiteru said the internet bandsidth is a high speed of 155 x 2 mbps each on both campuses based on the fiber-optic expansion of the existing network infrastructure, which will pave the way for robust and very reliable internet accessibility.

He described the internet as the backbone of every activity on campuses. He noted that the internet connectivity in the Polytechnic has been epileptic before and with the latest development, every output on campus will be of high quality.

While adding that the achievement will enhance learning, teaching, research, and administrative operations at Federal Polytechnic Offa, he commended the management led by Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru for the internet beefed up.

According to him,” This is another laudable achievement of our digital Rector to reposition the Polytechnic. The internet committee set up under the chairmanship of the Deputy Rector Admin reviewed internet activities with the goal of providing very robust and reliable internet connectivity. This singular action has revolutionized the internet connectivity on our campus.”

Director of ICT highlighted several notable achievements of the present administration and expressed delight at the enormous support the Rector has given to the ICT Centre since he assumed office. He said the ongoing project was part of the Rector’s initiative to make students a priority in the development of the Information Communication Technology (ICT). He affirmed that the broadband infrastructure will be delivered by Vision Tech Global Resources; and upon completion, the project will go a long way in reducing staff and students’ financial strain while maintaining seamless connectivity.

“The goal is to deploy technology and use data to drive our processes that will produce a fully digital Polytechnic and ensure the linkages of our two campuses,” he added.

Also speaking, Engr. Segun Ajayi who helped install the connections across coverage centres within the Polytechnic community stated that the fiber-optic cables are fast replacing wireless broadband. He said the world is slowly moving to fibre-optic connections and the Polytechnic Management has embraced this remarkable technology.

Speaking on the completion of the second-phase installations, Engr. Segun disclosed that out of the seven pilot sites selected for the deployment and expansion of the technology, the first phase has been 95 percent completed and transmission testing is presently ongoing at the second phase.
