Lens Poly Offa Student, Usman Aliyah Emerges Best Setter of the Tournament As Nigeria Wins 2024 African Under 17 Nations Volleyball Cup

Mass Communication student of Lens Polytechnic Offa, Usman Aliyah Omoronike has been awarded the best setter of the tournament at the just concluded 2024 African Under 17 Nations Volleyball Cup held at Parakou, Benin Republic.

Representing country at the international level, Aliyah and her team members made Nigeria proud by emerging winner of the tournament while Benin Republic emerged 1st runner-up and Burkina Faso emerged 2nd runner-up respectively.

Reacting to this feat, the Proprietor, Dr. Azeez Yisa FCA commended team Nigeria for bringing the trophy home and specifically congratulated Aliya for making the Polytechnic proud at both national and international levels.

Dr. Azeez noted that the Polytechnic through skills, knowledge, and ethics gives room for talent discovery to allow students unleash their potentials. He added that Aliyah is another talent from the Polytechnic making the country proud in the sports realm.

According to him,” I congratulate the entire team Nigeria for their collective efforts to bring the trophy to Nigeria. I want to specifically congratulate our student, Usman Aliyah, this is not her first time of representing Nigeria at the international levels and her well-deserved award as the best setter of the tournament is a true reflection of her dedication, experience, and expertise in volleyball. The Polytechnic management is always proud of her, and we will continue to support her and other talented students to pursue their careers.”

Also speaking, the Registrar, Mr. Hammed Sarafa Olalekan congratulated Aliyah and described her achievements as a testament to her hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent.

“Congratulations to Usman Aliyah Omoronike for making both the Lens Polytechnic Offa and Nigeria proud at the just concluded African Under 17 Nations Volleyball Cup. Your achievement is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent. You’ve set a high standard and demonstrated the remarkable potential of Lens Polytechnic students on a global stage. Well done,” he said.

While the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Mrs. Kehinde Adeniran commended the management for providing a conducive atmosphere for students to showcase their talents. She congratulated Aliyah for making the department and the Polytechnic proud and wished her more success in her subsequent endeavors.

Recall that Aliya represented Nigeria Women’s Volleyball Team at the 13th African Games held in Ghana from March 8th to 23rd, 2024.
