Patient’s Relative Beats Doctor At UITH As Resident Doctors Demonstrate Protest With 5-day Warning Strike
The Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital has staged a peaceful protest against the recent assault on a Doctor while discharging his duty by a patient’s relative.
The Doctors on Wednesday 22 January 2025 were spotted displaying placards with inscriptions “Stop the assault, Doctors’ lives matter… Doctors save lives, don’t kill us, stop beating us…” among others.
While speaking with Salient Reporters, the President, UITH Resident Doctors, Dr. Shiru Maryam said the protest is against the indiscriminate assaults on the members at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, adding that the protest was as result of assault where a resident Doctor was beaten by the patient’s relative.
Dr. Ashiru stressed that the peaceful demonstration takes effect with 5-day warning strike as a reaction to assault on the member. She said the peaceful protest is an avenue to sensitize the relatives of the patients that, there are better ways to express their grievances rather than beating Doctors.
