Miss Amity-Queen Moremi Ajansoro, Amma Child Educational Care Organisation Host Cancer Awareness Program For Secondary School Students In Offa

To increase cancer awareness at the grassroots, Miss Amity-Queen Moremi Ajansoro in conjunction with Amma Child Educational Care Organisation held a cancer awareness program for secondary school students in Offa.

The event held at Offa Descendants’ Union hall on Tuesday 4 February 2025 was organised to mark World Cancer Day and sensitize the girl child who are in high schools on cancer prevention.

The guest speaker, Professor Hadijat Olaide Raji from University of Ilorin while addressing the students said cancer is a disease in which cells in the body grow out of control.

Speaking on the theme titled cancer awareness, early detection and management, Professor Hadijat said modifiable risk factors of cancer include alcohol consumption, being overweight, diet nutrition, tobacco use, infection among others, she therefore admonished women who are more liable to breast cancer to carry out proper check on their body and seek medical attention when necessary.

The host, Babalola Munirat, Queen Moremi Ajansoro while addressing the press believes cancer is not a battle to be fought in silence, she urged the victims to speak up in order to get medical assistance.

“We are here today not only to raise cancer awareness but to share stories of strength, encourage, early detection and promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

She also appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to pay attention to the cancer awareness program in order to reduce the spread and sensitize the citizens.

Also speaking, Moradeyo Musharofah, founder of Amma Child Educational Care Organisation reiterated that the program’s objective is to raise awareness on early detection of cancer and it management.

Emphasising on the need to intensify effort on cancer awareness, Historian Lawal Muhammad noted that cancer doesn’t show in faces but goes through stages before it kills. He therefore urged the students to maintain good hygiene and take proper care of themselves.

The event also featured distribution of sanitary pads to the students who attended the awareness program as part of the pad a girl initiative of the conveners.
