Posthumous Centenary Celebration: Family Launches Book, Foundation In Honour Of Late Chief J.S Olawoyin

Asiwaju of Offa, Arc Lola Ashiru, Lanre Shittu, Saraki Launch Book Substantially

To honour the first Asiwaju of Offa, late Chief J.S Olawoyin, the family of the late nationalist held a posthumous centenary celebration on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 at Offa Descendants’ Union Hall.

The event premised on the century of legacy and leadership of Chief J.S Olawoyin was full of splendor with the presence of traditional rulers, notable politicians, business moguls, academicians and columnists celebrating worthy life and remarkable footprints of the great Off-born political icon.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Yusuf Ali SAN represented by Barr. Ibrahim Atofarati described late Chief J.S Olawoyin as a politician with high moral values, he noted that the late nationalist during his lifetime refused all the juicy political offers to stay true to his political convictions.

Speaking further, Prof. Ali said the great Chief Olawoyin used politics to benefit his immediate constituency and the larger North.

“Chief Olawoyin stood for ideal in politics and public service, that was why it wasn’t difficult for him to stand by his principles. His entire life revolved around principles,” he stated.

As contained in the documentary excerpt displayed, late Chief Olawoyin’s legacy continues to inspire as his principled approach to leadership and his unwavering belief in justice remains a beacon for future generations.

Salient Reporters gathered that as a member of the Northern House of Assembly, Chief J.S Olawoyin championed policies that prioritised education, rural development and equitable governance. His principled stance often placed him at odds with ruling elites, but he remained steadfast in his convictions.

The climax of the event featured a book launch and charity foundation to immortalise the late nationalist.

During the book launch, Arc Lola Ashiru collectively with other prominent figures launched with twenty million naira, Senator Bukola Saraki launched five million naira, Lanre Shittu launched with five million naira among others

In his vote of thanks, the son of Chief J.S Olawoyin and Chief Akinrogun of Offa, Barr. Shegun Olawoyin appreciated the traditional rulers, dignitaries, politicians, Offa sons and daughters and the committee for gracing the event and making it a success.
