LEAH Foundation Prostate Cancer Screening Initiative Benefits Over 1000 In Offa Community

As part of its humanitarian services to promote good health at the grassroots, Over 1000 men above 40 years have benefited from the LEAH Foundation’s Prostate Cancer Screening Initiative in Offa community.

The prostate cancer screening initiative held on Tuesday 11 February 2025 in commemoration of the world cancer day was premised on advocacy campaign, awareness, sensitization, screening, detection and treatment of prostate.

Speaking with Salient Reporters, former First Lady of Kwara State and founder of LEAH Foundation, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed said the Foundation works basically in the area of women health and its programs focus on social welfare, health, and education.

Speaking further, she said the Foundation established in the year 2011 has been able to sensitized thousands of people across Kwara communities on cancer awareness, adding that through its sensitization programmes, people are more open and free to present themselves for cancer screening.

Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed stated further that LEAH Foundation launched the Kwara South Prostate Cancer screening initiative to raise awareness, sensitize people on the need to submit themselves for free prostate screening, early detection and treatment.

According to her,” Screening is the key; early detection saves lives. At LEAH Foundation, we reorientate people that cancer is not contagious, the people diagnosed for it only need the love and support from their family. Many people give up because they lack psychological support. Today, we targeted about 1000 men above 40 years by taking their samples, our medical professionals carried out proper check and scan, and they were given result to know their prostate status. Detected cases were recommended for proper treatment. In today’s world, cancer is not supposed to be a killer anymore if caught early. Being diagnosed for cancer is not a death sentence.”

Speaking on the efforts of LEAH Foundation on cancer sensitization, she said the Foundation had produced local albums urging people to present themselves for screening, held radio programs, television series on Kwara TV and feature movies on Netflix which streamed for two years and LEAH Foundation YouTube channel.

Talking about the progress of LEAH Foundation, she stated that the center has been able to establish a diagnostic and medical centres in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.

On prostrate screening initiative, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed said the Foundation expands its scope to attend to cancer that affects men and the Foundation aims to screen about 20,000 men across Kwara State within 12 months.

She added that LEAH Foundation is not only making cancer awareness but giving people access to screening with 28 screening centers across Kwara State.

While engaging the beneficiaries on health talk and prostate sensitization, Dr. Olaleke Folaranmi Oluwashegun advised men to always carry out regular checkup to know their health status. He noted that early detection of cancer saves a life.

A beneficiary, Mr. Ajibade Abiodun expressed gratitude to LEAH Foundation for embarking on humanitarian services. While Noting that health is wealth, he enjoined members of the community, particularly men above 40 years, to submit themselves for screening.

Also speaking with Salient Reporters, Bright Sunday lauded LEAH Foundation initiative, he urged men folks to utilise the opportunity and get screened in order to know the status of the prostate issue in their body.

While the ambassador of LEAH Foundation and Queen Moremi Ajansoro, Munirat Babalola appreciated the former first lady, Deaconess Omolewa for saving lives through the Foundation. She added that cancer is not a battle to be fought in silence and urged members of the community to speak up and seek medical attention when necessary.
