LEAH Foundation Takes Prostate Cancer Screening Initiative To Kwara North

Wraps-up Kwara South Outreach With Over 500 Beneficiaries In Share Town

In its continuous drive to spread the prostate cancer screening initiative across Kwara State regions, the LEAH Foundation, a non-governmental organisation has extended its medical outreach to Kwara North capturing over 500 men above 40 years for prostate screening and detention.

The Kwara North screening exercise was held in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government on Thursday 13 February 2025 in commemoration of the year 2025 World Cancer Day.

Addressing the press, the immediate past First Lady of Kwara State and founder of LEAH Foundation, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed said the initiative is a drive to combat cancer through sensitization, raising awareness and detecting it at an early stage.

While lamenting the low level of prostate cancer awareness at the grassroots, she noted that LEAH Foundation has taken up the challenge without political affiliation and the screening is open to all men above 40 years who are domiciles in the Senatorial district where the exercise is taking place.

She therefore called on relevant stakeholders to join forces and support the Foundation in its awareness and sensitization drive to tackle cancer in Kwara communities.

In a related development, the Foundation continues its Kwara South screening exercise in Share town, Ifelodun Local Government to capture over 500 men above 40 years.

Earlier, the LEAH Foundation team led by Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of Olupako of Share, Oba Olawale Haruna Ilufemiloye and Etsu of Tsaragi, HRH, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullah Kpotwa.

The Foundation appreciated the royal fathers for embracing the exercise in their kingdom. She further solicits continuos support of the monarchs to enhance the awareness and sensitization drive of LEAH Foundation.

In his welcome address, the Olupako of Share commended Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed for developing passion to assist the people with prostate sensitization, screening, and detention.

While praying for the progress of LEAH Foundation, Kabiesi Olupako pledges necessary support to further expand the reach of the Foundation’s initiative in the community.

Addressing the beneficiaries in separate lectures, Dr. Odeyemi Peter, a urologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital said the prostate is real and curable once it is detected early. He added that the prostate is a genetic disease which can be caused by race, age, or family history.

Dr. Odeyemi stated that the prostate is the commonest killer of men from study because people are not aware of it. He commended LEAH Foundation for bringing the screening, awareness and sensitization to the doorsteps of the people in Kwara communities.

While the ambassador of LEAH Foundation, Miss-Amity Queen Moremi Ajansoro, Munirat Babalola appreciated the former first lady and Founder, LEAH Foundation, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed for making remarkable impacts in the lives of the people through LEAH Foundation. She noted that cancer is not a battle to be fought in silence and admonished beneficiaries to always check themselves regularly to know their prostate status.
