FEDPOFFA Building Tech Dept Holds Capacity Building Training On Artificial Intelligence, Grant Writing

Training should be replicated in other schools, departments- Dean, HOD Advocate

To enhance the research capacity of staff members for academic excellence, the Department of Building Technology has organised a day training session on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools for research, journal publications and conferences for promotion, grant writing and securing research funding.

The training session held on Thursday 20 February 2025 at the ICT room of the Department featured technical session where participants demonstrated what they were taught during the training and put their knowledge of Artificial Intelligence into practice.

The keynote speaker, Arc. Abdulmageed Osunkunle from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi commended the Department of Building Technology and Architectural Department for organising a training programme intended to enhance the performances of the staff members in the area of research.

Giving specifications of research grants available for applications, he highlighted Institution-Based Research, National Research Fund, Fabrications among others.

He charges the researchers across institutions to intensify collaborative efforts and partnerships to obtain research grants.

Speaking further on enhancing research capacity for academic excellence, Arc. Abdulmajeed noted that the researchers need to identify problem area from the broad research category, adding that the literature review involves an extensive study of research publications, books and other documents related to the defined problem.

He therefore encouraged researchers to leverage on artificial intelligence to support research writing, which can attract funds from five million to fifty million naira.

In his welcome address, the Head of Department of Building Technology, Bldr. Funsho Aliyu appreciated the resource person for traveling from Bauchi State to engage his colleagues at the Federal Polytechnic Offa. He noted that the training which was supported by the Department of Architectural Technology was considered necessary to upgrade the knowledge of staff members on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools for research, including grant writing and securing research funding.

He commended the participants for turning out en masse and making the training a success.

Appreciating the resource person, the Head of Department of Building Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ede and Chairman Osun State Nigerian Institute of Building, Bldr. Sunday Ayegbokiki commended the organisers of the training, adding that the training should be constant in academic environment.

On his part, Bldr. Olawale Obadimu appreciated the Head of Department, Bldr. Funsho Aliyu for bringing the training to the department. He noted that the training has broadened the knowledge of the participants on the use of artificial intelligence for research writing.

While the HOD Architecture, Arc. Bello M.A equally commended the organiser of the training, adding that the training has opened the eyes of the participants to the new trends in the area of research.

Earlier in his remark, the Dean, School of Environmental Technology, Bldr. J.O Alabi commended the organisers of the training, he described the training as a memorable event which enhanced and enriched the knowledge of the participants. He therefore advocated for the training to be replicated in other departments as one of the core hallmarks in academic institutions.
