World Tuberculosis Day: Hon. Seun Oguniyi Joins Stakeholders In Community Sensitzation, Campaign
Demands Joint Action Against Tuberculosis In Kwara Communities
The Kwara State House of Assembly Member representing Ojomu Balogun Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Health, Hon. Seun Oguniyi has joined the relevant stakeholders in the community sensitzation and campaign against tuberculosis in Nigeria.
The programme in two segments was premised on tuberculosis sensitization in commemoration of the world Tuberculosis Day.
In a release obtained by Salient Reporters, Ogbeni Seun Oguniyi wrote:
“In commemoration of this year’s World Tuberculosis Day, which was marked on Monday 24th March 2025, I had the honour of participating in two separate and distinct events to celebrate the day as attention is drawn globally to the scourge of this public health concern.
“The first in the line-up of activities to mark the day was the TB CASE SEARCH AND COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN at Kulende Market in Ilorin South LGA. This was put together by Kwara State Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Office of The First Lady of Kwara State with the theme: “Yes We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.”
“This outdoor event was witnessed by an array of invited guests, including representative of First Lady of Kwara State and the State TB Eradication Champion, Her Excellency, Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq; Commissioner for Health, represented by Director Pharmaceutical Services Ministry of Health, Pharm Barakat Olanrewaju; Director of Public Health Ministry of Health, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode; State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme Manager, Dr. Fatima Lawal-Lah; W.H.O Kwara State Coordinator, Dr. Eyitayo; Representatives of ARFH; Vice Chairman Ilorin South LGA; Community leaders including Imam Hausa; Imam Yoruba and Alangua of Sango.
“The event underscored the need for all active cases of TB to be discovered and treated so that the deadly chain of transmission can be broken. Kwara State Government under Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq continues to make as priority numerous health intervention initiatives in the state. For instance, the remarkable gesture of health insurance coverage sponsored by the Kwara State Government for TB patients, including four other members of their household to cover free treatment of some health conditions for one year, is truly commendable. Similarly, the State had acquired a number of portable digital x-ray machines that deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) for screening of TB and other chronic respiratory conditions in the state.
“The second event was a PUBLIC LECTURE organized by the Kwara State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) to commemorate World TB Day. This took place at the Federal Secretariat Complex along Fate Road in Ilorin. This was attended by the North Central Zonal Director of National Orientation Agency, Dr. Princess Priscilla Gondo-Aluor; NOA Kwara State Director, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu Olurotimi; State Deputy Director, Mrs Kemi Omole; Director of Nursing Kwara State Ministry of Health, Hajia Aminat Ahman and members of staff at the NOA Kwara State Directorate office.
“My active participation in these two events reflects my personal commitment towards joining hands with other stakeholders in making positive impacts towards reversing the trend of TB prevalence in our communities and states. This is with a view to ultimately eradicate this deadly disease in line with the global goal as outlined in the WHO’s End TB Strategy by 2035.”
