Nigeria’s Democracy Day, formerly observed on May 29th, the date when the president, governors, National Assembly members, and state lawmakers were sworn in, was changed to June 12th in 2018.
President Bola Tinubu is to address the nation at 7 am on Thursday, June 12, 2025, as part of activities to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
The President is also expected to attend a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day made this known on Wednesday in a statement by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the committee’s Director of Information and Public Relations.
According to the statement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will attend a joint session of the National Assembly at noon.
Unlike other past Democracy Days, the statement noted that there will be no Democracy Day parade.
It added that there will be a Public lecture on Democracy Day celebration at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, at 4 pm
The theme of the lecture is “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
