FEDPOFFA Chosen For FG’s solar Mini-grid Project , Management Set Up Committee For Implementation

The Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) has been chosen as one of the public institutions to benefit from the Federal Government’s new solar mini-grid project.

The project which was led by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is designed to provide clean and sustainable energy to selected tertiary institutions across the country.

During a recent visit by the REA’s North-Central Coordinator, Engr. Banabas I.K, the institution showed just how ready it is. A warm reception was held, led by Engr. Kehinde Olufemi, who spoke on behalf of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, FNSE. He described the partnership as a major step toward solving electricity issues and improving the learning environment.

“This is a practical and much-needed solution,” Engr. Kehinde said. “We’re excited about what this will mean for teaching, research, and daily life on our campuses.” He added.

After the meeting, the Polytechnic team gave the REA officials a tour of the school’s power infrastructure, stopping at areas like the bakery, water factory, and existing power plants. The visit ended at a open field behind Adesoye Hall, which was suggested as a potential site for the solar installation.

To ensure smooth running system, the Rector has set up a special committee made up of lecturers, engineers, and other experienced staff members to pick most suitable location.

Some of the committee’s missions are:

1. Finding areas where the Polytechnic and REA can collaborate

2. Creating a clear plan for the solar project

3. Tracking the project’s progress and keeping everyone updated

4. Promoting training and research on renewable energy

5. Making sure the project follows national energy policies, among others.

The committee includes experts from Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Computer Engineering, and Applied Physics, among others, all working together toward same goal.

“This is just the beginning,” said the Rector. “We’re open to partnerships that bring growth. Our students and staff deserve the best, and we’re committed to making that happen.” He concluded.
