Fedpoffa Mgt. Not Extorting Students, Medical Screening Is Part Of Requirements For Registration In Higher Institutions

The management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa has reacted to the alleged extortion of students in a recent publication going round on social media.

The management in a release signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Folake Oyinloye Thursday 3rd 2025 described the allegation as unfair comment against the institution.

The release reads in full:

“The attention of the management has been drawn to a release issued by NANS Zone C Deputy Coordinator, Comrade Azeez Abiola Babatunde and circulated on social media, prominently on WhatsApp, alleging the Polytechnic management of extorting students.

“This allegation is not a fair comment against the management of the Polytechnic and an attempt to discredit the institution in the public domain by the Zone C of National Association of Nigerian Students.

“Empathetically, the management neither received nor hosted any NANS Zone C executive for discussion or enquiry on the reason behind the chest x-ray as part of the medical requirements for registration.

“For record purpose, the Management introduced the x-ray screening as part of medical requirements for registration as a proactive measure for proper screening, treatment, guidance and counselling against health challenges such as heart conditions, kidney disease, liver diseases, cancer and other communicable and non communicable diseases.

“The NANS Zone C cannot be ignorant of the alarming rate of health complications such as kidney, liver diseases among youths orchestrated by many factors, including hard drugs, smoking and harmful substances. Rather than describing the proactive decision of the management as extortionary, the apex students’ body is expected to commend the Polytechnic management for guiding the students who are youths to know their health conditions for proper care, guidance and counseling.

“The medical screening is a mandatory requirement for any institution admitting students, and the Federal Polytechnic Offa is not exempted. The basic requirements in the medical certificate are solely the decision of the management.

“While the welfare and wellbeing of our students is paramount, the management urges the NANS Zone C to always seek clarification on certain decision or policy of the Polytechnic for the purpose of objectivity and clarity.
