In a keenly contested Students’ Union Government election, Comrade Yunus Olamilekan Tomiwa of Library and Information Science department has been declared the President-elect for the 2025/2026 academic session following the election held yesterday at the institution’s permanent site.
While declaring the election results the Returning Officer, Dr. Yisa Azeez FCA announced that Comrade Yunus Olamilekan pulled a total of 190 votes to defeat his opponent with only a margin of two votes Comrade Lawrence Benjamin Ayomiposi of Mass Communication department who got 188 votes.
In his remarks following the declaration of elections results, the Proprietor of Lens Polytechnic Offa Dr Yisa Azeez FCA congratulated the winners for their victory in the election and commended all the contestants for hard work and the courage to take up leadership responsibilities. He urged them to continue the good works of their predecessors’ in terms of developmental projects and academic excellence and they should equally embrace unity as both parties could work together as a team.
On a lighter note, Dr Azeez expressed dissatisfaction on the low turnout of student voters which was the first in the history of the institution elections. He acknowledged that the presidential candidates who are both from the Faculty of Arts and information pulled same capacity in the election as only two votes made the difference.
In the other positions contested Comr. Afeniforo Oluwatimilehin (TIMI) was elected as the Vice President Admin while
Garuba Funmilayo Serah (IBUKUN) emerged as the General Secretary,
Comr. Muhyideen Ibrahim (OTITO) won the position of the Asst. General secretary,
Comr. Bakare Abisoye Valentina (Omo Oba) was elected SUG treasurer, Bamidele Toyosi Blessing (ERITOYOSI) as Financial Secretary while Alabi Memunat Mosunmola (ITUNES) emerged the Assistant Financial Secretary.
Other elected executives include Adewale Muyisudeen Opeyemi (IBNU THAIMIYAA) as Social Director 1, Ajibade Adam Adedayo (PERRY) as Social Director 2, Comr. Amao Oluniyi (PASTOR) as Sports Director 1, Adesanmi Abiodun Olanrewaju (POPULAR EGE) as _Sports Director 2, Adewuyi Temitope (JESUS BABE) as Welfare Director 1, Comr. Bolarinwa Omowumi (Mammie Water) as Welfare 2, Hamzat Opeyemi Ayomide (AYO) as PRO 1 and Comr. Abass Aliu Oluwasegun as PRO 2_
In his reaction, the Electoral Committee Chairman Mr Adebiyi commended the institution management for enabling a unique platform for Student Unionism and development which he said is uncommon with private institutions. As the best Private Polytechnic in Nigeria, Lens Polytechnic Offa goes beyond dispensing academic knowledge as students are allowed to also showcase leadership qualities and entrepreneurial skills.
