Nigeria Basketball Federation president Musa Kida has travelled to Abidjan to support D’Tigress ahead of their quarter-final clash against Cameroon at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The NNPC Plc Chairman’s presence in the Ivorian capital underscores the federation’s commitment to the team as they seek to extend their remarkable winning streak to 27 consecutive AfroBasket victories.

D’Tigress will face Cameroon at 10pm Nigerian time tonight at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, with a semi-final berth against either Senegal or the Ivory Coast at stake.
The reigning African champions have dominated the quarter-final stage, defeating Rwanda 92-45 in their opener before securing a hard-fought 60-55 victory over Mozambique to book their place in the last eight.
Under Kida’s leadership over the past eight years, D’Tigress have established themselves as the continent’s dominant force in women’s basketball. The team has captured four consecutive AfroBasket titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023, whilst also achieving historic milestones on the global stage.
Nigeria made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Canada to become the first African team to reach the women’s basketball quarter-finals at the Games.
Tonight’s encounter with Cameroon carries particular significance, as the Central African nation remains the last team to defeat Nigeria in the AfroBasket competition. That victory came by a single point in 2015, and D’Tigress have remained unbeaten in the tournament since then.
Victory against Cameroon would move Nigeria one step closer to a record-extending fifth consecutive AfroBasket title.
