Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has officially returned to the Senate after completing her six-month suspension.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, confirmed that she would resume plenary on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, adding that the Senate had no legal basis to stop her since her suspension period had already expired. He cautioned that any attempt to block her entry would contradict the Senate’s own resolution and could cause chaos within the National Assembly.
Giwa quoted senior lawyer Femi Falana, emphasizing that the Senate should act within the law and not be controlled by a few individuals.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office, which had been sealed since March 6, 2025, was reopened two weeks ago by the National Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms. Speaking after her reinstatement, she expressed no regret over her previous actions, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of acting like a “dictator.”
She stated that her suspension was unjust but necessary to expose the abuse of power in the legislature, asserting that “no one is more Nigerian than another.”
The senator was suspended in March for alleged misconduct after protesting the reassignment of her seat. Although the suspension ended in September, her return was delayed by ongoing legal disputes and internal resistance.
As the National Assembly resumed after its long recess, attention turned to whether Akpoti-Uduaghan would be allowed to participate fully in plenary activities.
