Hon. Adato Lauds Food Scientists at NIFST Conference in Ilorin

Congratulates two Offa-born professors on fellowship awards

The Chairman, House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Kwara State House of Assembly, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, has commended the role of food scientists and technologists in driving national development and promoting a healthy population.

Ogunniyi stated this in his goodwill message at the opening ceremony of the 49th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology held on Tuesday at De Peace Hotel, Ilorin.

The week-long conference, which began on October 21, is expected to end on Friday, October 24. It brought together food professionals from across the country, including experts from academia, industry, and research institutions.

In his remarks, Ogunniyi lauded the leadership of the Institute for choosing Kwara as the host state and urged participants to enjoy the hospitality of Ilorin and its people.

The first day of the conference featured a keynote address, goodwill messages, investiture, and the conferment of fellowship awards on distinguished members of the Institute.

Two Offa-born professors

Mutiat Adebanke Balogun, a Professor of Microbiology and Food Science, and Fausat Lola Kolawole, a Professor of Food Science, both of the University of Ilorin were among the honourees.

Ogunniyi congratulated the duo on their elevation to the Fellowship status of the Institute, describing the recognition as a mark of excellence and a source of pride to their families, the University of Ilorin, and the entire Offa community.
