Yoruba Wikipedia Fan Club Set to Launch Digital Heritage Project on Saturday 29 November 2025 in Offa

Project to promote Yoruba knowledge on the global landscape

In a landmark move for cultural preservation, the Yoruba Wikipedia Fan Club, Offa chapter, has launched an ambitious digital heritage project titled “Digitizing Yoruba Heritage: One Edit at a Time” on 29th November, 2025.

According to that Founder/Director Yoruba Wikipedia Fan Club Offa,
Prince Salako Lukman Olamilekan, he said the initiative seeks to bring the rich language, history and traditions of the Yoruba people which is long recognised as one of the continent’s most influential civilisations into the digital era. Using platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata as their canvas, organisers aim to ensure that centuries of oral tradition, literature, and art are documented, shared and celebrated globally.

Mission:

Bridge the gap between Indigenous knowledge and the digital world.

The ultimate goal:

Enable future generations to access, learn and celebrate Yoruba culture from anywhere in the world.

Partakers:

Youths and students: Take part in free, hands‑on training and become “digital heritage ambassadors.”

Educators and cultural institutions: Collaborate to create authentic Yoruba content with depth and integrity.

Organisations and sponsors: Contribute through funding, logistics or strategic partnerships.

Community members and professionals: Share stories, images, expertise and lived experience to enrich the digital record of Yoruba culture.

This landmark launch builds on the Fan Club’s early momentum, which already includes edit‑a‑thons, content drives and a growing community of digital volunteers. Established in June 2025, the Offa chapter has quickly aligned with the broader Yoruba Wikimedians User Group to advance free knowledge in Nigeria and beyond.
