Man in hardship for 22 years over spinal cord injury seeks help, releases account details to the public

A spinal cord injury patient, Daniel Emori, has called on the government, groups, individuals and members of the public to come to his aid, lamenting that his injury, sustained in 2003, has left him bedridden for 21 years.

In addition, he said he is facing serious hardship and hunger, unable to afford food and other basic provisions.

Emori, who is now 43 years old, narrated that he sustained the injury on October 10, 2003, at 21 years of age, after an uncontrolled cow rammed into him while making deliveries as a driver for a pharmaceutical company in Onitsha, Anambra State.

“My Name is Daniel Emori. I am from the Adadama Community in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State. I was born sixth in a family of nine. May 3, this year, was my 43rd birthday. It was the year 2000 after my Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in my state, Cross River. I travelled to Onitsha, Anambra State, in search of greener pastures. I started working in a plastic company as a machine operator before I went to a driving school with the little savings I generated after two years of working in the plastic company. Though I had started working as both a private and commercial driver for some individuals and companies before I was employed at the Rico Pharmaceutical Company, Omuoba Phase 2.

“The fateful day was on October 10, 2003. As I was on official duty, delivering goods to customers in Fegge, a very popular market in Onitsha, close to River Niger Bridge, I had an encounter with this single uncontrolled cow from nowhere. It lifted me in the air, and it was when I landed on the ground that I broke my neck, and it resulted in my immediate paralysis. It was in that process that I had this very accident, where I sustained a spinal cord injury that has paralysed me to date, going 22 years this year, October,” he said.

Emori also stated that doctors had recommended going to India for medical surgeries, noting, however, that raising the funds for the surgery was unsuccessful, and that he may need a miracle owing to medical complications from his prolonged condition.

“All efforts to raise the required funds to travel to India for some medical surgeries, as stated in the medical report, were not successful. However, I am no longer talking of medical treatment anymore because it seems my prolonged health condition is already complicated medically, unless by a miracle.

“The only things I am appealing and soliciting from individuals, philanthropists, groups of persons, organisations, government and above all, the general public, is just my immediate daily needs, most especially feeding, and some minor medications for my bedsores, pending when God will decide my fate here on earth,” he stated.

Daniel Emori’s account details: United Bank for Africa number 2072008766. The patient can be reached via 07031655209 or 08082453717.
