The School of Management Studies (SMS) of The Federal Polytechnic Offa has held its first-ever Professional Summit, marking a milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence, innovation, and national relevance. The event took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, FNSE, FIDPM, FNIM, described the summit as a “defining moment” not just for SMS but for the entire Polytechnic and Nigeria’s educational landscape.
Themed “Navigating Professional Management Frontiers for Economic Advancement in Nigeria: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities,” the summit brought together industry experts and policymakers to address pressing economic issues such as inflation and youth unemployment.
Dr. Kadiri stressed the vital role of professional management in national development, stating, “Professionals are the architects of economic stability and national progress. Without their expertise, no nation can adequately harness its resources for growth.”
He commended SMS Dean, Dr. Kenneth Unuafe, FCIB, FIOE, and the organizing committee for their efforts, expressing hope that the summit will become an annual event with wider reach and impact.
Highlighting recent achievements, the Rector noted that The Federal Polytechnic Offa has earned several national recognitions, including:
Recognition as a Centre for Innovation and Enterprise Incubation by the National Board for Technology Incubation.
Appointment as the Sports Centre of Excellence for the North Central zone, with representation on the National High-Level Sporting Committee.
Strategic partnerships with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bank of Industry (BoI) for entrepreneurship training and business support.
Ongoing collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on accreditation, curriculum reforms, and entrepreneurship education.
He also revealed that the Polytechnic now has over 100 PhD holders, strengthening its capacity to compete with universities in research, teaching, and policy development.
“These recognitions are not accidental,” he said. “They are the results of deliberate and sustained efforts to reposition the Polytechnic as a leader among its peers.”
The Rector officially declared the summit open, thanking participants for “identifying with the vision of excellence and impact” that The Federal Polytechnic Offa continues to uphold both nationally and internationally.
