NDLEA Commends Initiative, Enlightens Students On Effect of Harmful Substances
The final-year students of Journalism and Media Studies Department, Federal Polytechnic Offa, embarked on No to Drug Abuse Campaign in Offa Kwara State.
The campaign aimed at sensitizing the residents and youths on the effect of drug abuse was held on Thursday, September 10 2026.
Addressing the students, the Head of Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dr. Godwin Esimokha, Esq. said the campaign is an opportunity to sensitize the public about the dangers of drug abuse. He stated that the campaign is timely because it will lead to attitudinal change among youths who engage in drug abuse. He therefore commended the students for taking active participation in the campaign aimed at curbing drug abuse.
Speaking with Salient Reporters, the Chairman NURTW Offa, Alhaji Shakiru Abdul Kadiri commended the students for the campaign against drug abuse; he appealed to the government to implement strict measures in curbing the menace. He urged the youths to shun drug abuse and harmful substances.
Also speaking, the road transport chairman for Irepodun Branch Offa, Mr. Sarafadeen Adeshina admonished Nigerian youths to shun drugs and other harmful substances capable of truncating their lives.
The officials of the NDLEA while welcoming the students to their office in Offa commended the initiative. The officials noted that the NDLEA is charged with the responsibility of curbing and curtailing drug abuse in Nigeria, adding that drug abuse is a global menace.
The officials therefore noted that misconception, peer pressure, family background and social media influence are among the causes of abuse.
Speaking further, the officials highlighted physical, psychological, social and legal implications as part of the consequences of harmful substances, which involve damage to kidneys, hearts, lungs, and other body organs.
The NDLEA therefore charges students to continue to advocate and be ambassadors of the institution by spreading the message against drug abuse.
Students in their separate remarks advised the residents and youths at large to avoid hard drugs, adding that it destroys future.
