Offa Is Safe and Peaceful— FEDPOFFA Council Declares During Visit To Olofa of Offa Palace

The Governing Council of The Federal Polytechnic Offa has visited the Palace of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Okikiola Ajagunbgbade I, Esuwoye II, to clarify the circumstances surrounding a recent communication on the venue of its meetings and to reaffirm the Polytechnic’s confidence in the peace and security of Offa.

The visit, which took place on Saturday, 12th September, 2026, was led by the Chairman of the 7th Governing Council, Alhaji Moshood Oluwole Ojikutu. The Council delegation was received at the Palace by High Chief Shawo of Offa, Alhaji Mustapha Abioye, and High Chief Balogun of Offa, Alhaji Munirudeen Olaniyi, who represented the Olofa. Speaking on behalf of the Governing Council and Management, the Council Chairman expressed regret over the unintended interpretation generated by a portion of an earlier Polytechnic communication which referenced security and the holding of Council meetings outside the Polytechnic premises.

Alhaji Ojikutu explained that the reference was not intended to portray Offa as unsafe or insecure, nor was it meant to undermine the reputation of the ancient town or create panic among residents and stakeholders.

He reaffirmed the Council’s confidence in the peace and security of Offa, describing the town as one of the most peaceful and hospitable communities in Kwara State.

According to him, the Polytechnic values its cordial relationship with the Palace, the Olofa-in-Council, the Offa Descendants Union, both at home and abroad, and the entire Offa community.

“Offa is safe and peaceful. We are here to apologise to our royal father and the entire community for the communication error. We assure you that our meetings and activities will continue to take place within the Polytechnic, and we remain committed to maintaining our strong relationship with the Offa community,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the Olofa, High Chief Shawo, Alhaji Mustapha Abioye, described the Palace as concerned about the impression created by the earlier communication, stressing that Offa has remained peaceful, safe and accommodating.
He noted that the peaceful environment of Offa had made it possible for a large number of staff and students of the Polytechnic to live and conduct their daily activities within the community.

“Offa is peaceful, safe and accommodating, and that is why the majority of the Polytechnic staff and students reside here and stay with us,” he said.
High Chief Shawo also urged the Governing Council to continue to deploy its leadership and conciliatory role towards resolving outstanding issues between Management and the staff unions in the interest of industrial harmony, institutional stability and the continued development of the Polytechnic.

Earlier, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Kamoru Oluwatoyin Kadiri, FNSE, expressed appreciation to the Olofa, the Olofa-in-Council and the people of Offa for their continued support and fatherly guidance to the institution.

The Rector acknowledged the important role played by the Palace in promoting peace and stability within the Polytechnic and assured the Council and the community of Management’s commitment to sustaining harmonious relationships with all stakeholders.
He noted that the achievements of his administration had been strengthened by the support and cooperation received from the Governing Council, the Palace and other critical stakeholders.

In her vote of thanks, a member of the Governing Council, Dr. Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogungbamigbe, expressed appreciation to the Olofa, the Olofa-in-Council, High Chief Shawo and High Chief Balogun for granting the Council audience and providing an opportunity for clarification and reconciliation.

She assured the Palace that the Governing Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, would continue to work closely with Management and other stakeholders to address outstanding issues amicably and promote peace, unity and progress within The Federal Polytechnic Offa.

The visit further reaffirmed the strong bond between The Federal Polytechnic Offa and the traditional institution of Offa, as well as the shared commitment of both parties to peace, stability and the continued growth of the Polytechnic and its host community.
